Allergy and Immunology

Patient and Carer Information

Before your appointment

As you may have allergy testing done at your appointment, please stop taking allergy tablets or antihistamines at least 3 days before your appointment as they may interfere with your allergy testing. However, do not stop taking any other medications including inhalers or puffers.

On the day

On the day of your appointment, please bring:

Any previous x-rays or CT scans, in case they are relevant
Any current medications
Photo’s of any rashes, swellings or lesions especially if they come and go

Common foods can be tested for in our clinic but, if you suspect a particular or unusual food, please find out the ingredients of the dish before hand. You can bring in the packaging, contact the restaurant or talk to the chef.

Testing against the fresh or cooked product can also be informative. Sometimes there may be a reason why testing to fresh foods may not be performed but it is helpful to have these available at the time. Please check with reception when making your appointment.

How to make an appointment

You need a referral from your doctor before you can make an appointment with Dr Hew. You can email, fax or post your referral.

GP referrals are valid for 12 months and other specialist referrals are valid for 3 months.

To make an appointment, please contact us Monday to Friday between 8.30am and 5.00pm (except public holidays).

Alternatively, you can email your appointment request and we will respond to you within 48 hours.

Fees & Payments

All fees are payable on the appointment day. We accept VISA, Mastercard, EFTPOS and cash. Following payment of your account, you will most likely be eligible for a rebate from Medicare.

This is a private practice and as such we do not bulk bill. If you have any queries regarding the fees please contact us. Accounts that are not settled on the day will attract an additional administration fee.

Cancellations

You will receive an SMS to confirm your appointment. Please cancel at least 24 hours in advance if you are not able to attend your appointment, so that it can be offered to another patient.

If you cancel less than 24 hours in advance or do not attend your scheduled appointment, a $110 cancellation fee will apply. This fee is not refunded by Medicare.

Don’t wait any longer. Get on top of your allergy symptoms.
